In the flickering light of the oil lamps, Suede Lounge’s relaxed, urban vibe is hypnotic. The evening might be too brisk to enjoy the wrought iron and glass-enclosed patio a few feet off busy Jasper Avenue, but the neutral-toned interior enjoys an understated elegance. On weekends, live DJs bring a younger crowd to the space but weekday evenings tend to attract the 25-35 professionals.
As the city develops its nightlife, more of these cool urban lounges are bound to appear. To be seen, don your hippest threads and take to the eponymous suede couches. For the combination of a hip paradise, excellent food and substantial wine list, Wine Access magazine named Suede one of the top 100 dining experiences in Canada.
There are some delightful entrees and a good selection of tapas, but the most intriguing menu items are the various colours of oven-roasted flatbreads. (And by the way, as a sensuous finale, no date can resist the Bernard Callebaut chocolate-filled strawberries.)
